ROLLER SHADES
For many people, the phrase "roller shades" recalls images of old spring-loaded shades flying up uncontrollably to the top of the window, or of tattered and torn dime-store shades of hideous brittle vinyl. There really should be a different name for what's on the market now, because they have come so far from these old preconceptions.
For starters, most of the roller shades people choose today are operated with a cord or bead chain at the side of the shade. This allows you to exactly position the shade where you want it, with no spring mechanism at all to either refuse to move or fly out of control.
The features that make roller shades the most requested window treatment in heavy-use locations such as schools also heighten their value in the home. They're moderate in price. They're tough! They have no delicate mechanisms or breakable strings, and if any parts do become damaged, they can be quickly repaired or replaced. They are easy to operate and for very large or hard-to-reach windows, they lend themselves well to motorization.
We feature decorative roller shades by B & W Manufacturing and room-darkening and solar shades by Draper, MechoShade and VIMCO.
