METAL BLINDS
Everyone is familiar with 1" horizontal blinds, commonly called miniblinds. Have you ever wondered why they are called "miniblinds?" When they were developed in the 1960's, this name was given to distinguish them from the so-called Venetian blinds with wide 2" slats that were the decorating standby in America from the 1920's through the 1950's.
Now, of course, the 2" blinds have made a comeback, often dressed up with cotton twill ladder tapes to recall the appearance of the historical version. There is also an in-between size of 1 3/8". Miniblinds will fit in almost anyone's budget; the wider blinds cost only slightly more.
No matter what the size, they give you easy functionality in privacy and light control. You can even enhance these benefits by choosing a "Lightmaster" model with the cord holes offset so they do not show.
Naturally, they are available in a wide variety of decorator colors; there is also an option of a sculpted headbox that is more attractive than the standard headrail.
Metal blinds can be used on their own for a real straight-line, clean look, even a bare-bones minimalism. If that is not your taste, you may want to combine them with fabric, in either curtains or a top treatment, to lighten the look and feel. We feature metal blinds by Levolor and Graber. | |||
