WINDOW FILM

Here in upstate New York we are just getting used to the idea that we might sometimes want to limit the sun that comes in through our windows. Since it's not a very sunny climate, every drop of sunlight is precious; and since the weather or our work frequently keeps us indoors, our view to the outside is precious too. We don't like to close the blinds and block it all out.

However the first time we notice fading on our favorite carpet, or when we add on a sunroom and can't sit there on a sunny day, we do begin to think about limiting or taming the sunlight. That's where window film can help.

Window film takes the edge off the sun's glare so it is not painful (or even damaging!) to your eyes. We can help you choose the film that leaves a sunny day feeling sunny, but not scorching. All of our films eliminate 99.9% of the sun's ultraviolet radiation, so that fading and other sun damage is significantly reduced.

If you air-condition, you may be setting your controls to make the hottest areas of your home or office comfortable, leaving other areas too cold. Window film will even out these hot and cold spots. Your savings in energy costs will pay for the film! If you don't air-condition, window film will make it easier to enjoy every area of your home, even in the hottest weather. Best of all, most of our films are scarcely noticeable from either the inside or outside.

Some of our films are designed to reduce wintertime heat loss as well as summertime heat gain. We are proponents of various insulating window shades, but none of them save any energy when they are raised to let the daylight in. Low-e window films save energy 24 hours a day.

Window film has an additional characteristic which is little-known but so beneficial that it is the sole reason film is selected by some individuals. Have you ever seen the mess created by a golf ball, baseball, or weather-driven tree limb flying through a window? Tiny shards of glass can be scattered everywhere, lodging in your carpet and endangering children. Window film does not prevent the window from breaking, but it does hold the pieces of shattered glass together. There are also special, heavier, safety and security films that will hold the glass fragments together in the face of stronger assaults such as "Smash and grab" robbery attempts or even bomb blasts.

On a lighter note, we also can provide a variety of decorative window films which give your glass the appearance of frosted glass or etched glass. There are opaque films in black or white, and there is a rainbow of translucent colored films.

Our window film manufacturer is CPFilms, the largest film manufacturer in the world. We use their top-of-the-line Vista films, and also their Llumar films for specialty applications. You can find out more about window film at www.vista-films.com.
